Tidung Island, One of A Thousand

Tidung Island is located at the Thousand Islands, northern part of Jakarta.

Saturday, August 2nd, 2014

We started our trip to Tidung Island from Muara Angke Harbor early in the morning. Muara Angke is a fish market. The place is very crowded, disorganized, and dirty. I had to cover my nose with a tissue because the smell was very disgusting. We also had to watch our every single step as there were so many puddle and vehicles which passing by along the street. I thought that it was only a little obstacle in our trip, but it was the only way to get the cheapest price to reach Tidung Island*. Unfortunately, the other problem came through us. Our booked passanger ship was over capacity, so we got passed to another ship and i hadn't no idea at that time, that all the people just got in to one of the ships which they want and all the ships were over cap. The ship can load up to 300 pax. Remember, if you go there, you must first ask where the ship will going to. We got our ship delayed.

It spent around 2 hours from Muara Angke to Tidung Island. It was crowded since June-August are the best time to visit Tidung Island. Mostly, they are the local visitors from Jakarta. For a short-marine tour, thousand island is always be the first choice for locals.

We directly walked to our homestay, led by our local guide. The streets there were very small, that only motorbike and bicycle can pass the streets. Their house averagely have the same size and only have one level floor. We got a very simple homestay with 3 air-conditioned studio rooms, each room for 4-5 person with a bathroom, 1 king size mattress and 1 double size mattress, water dispenser, and 15inch television. They also provided us with a bicycle/pax for biking around the island. The island is not big, approximately 109 hectars.

After lunch, we went to one of the harbor to do snorkeling, riding our bike. It was the first snorkeling for me so i was really excited. It was beautiful and the water was very clean. Many corals and small fish with many kind of colors. We took some photos with underwater cam lent by the local guide (unfortunately we got nothing good photos inside the flashdisk back home ;_;) Snorkeling there was also quiet save, because no boat pass through our snorkeling spot. The boatsmen parked their boat organizedly. My legs got a bruised by the corals as the sea was to shallow.

We continued to do other watersports such as banana boat and donut boat at Tidung Kecil Island. There is also a unique tradition there. There is a bridge called 'Jembatan Cinta' or 'Love Bridge'. The locals belief, if people jump to the sea from the top of the bridge, they will find their true love in a near time. The bridge is around 5 meters high. It was unrealistic for me, but it was quite challenging. Then I stand in the line, queueing with my cousin, Juan, and the others who also want to try it. Finally it's our turn to jump. My heart was pounding at first, then Juan started to count quickly "three, two, one.. jump!" I was not ready yet and he jumped away just like that, leaved me behind. Without think any longer, I jumped in and "BYUSHH!" My feet touch the 3 meters-deep sea bottom and quickly went up to the surface. I felt like my butts went missing and the salty water got through my nose. But that was left for minutes and i felt back to normal. It was amazing!

We watched sunset from the boat on the way back to main Tidung Island. We had a barbeque and fireworks at night, chit chat with friends and family.

Our activity that day was biking around the islands and went to some beaches that our local guide suggested. We see the sunrise from the beach (forgot the name ;_;). We were biking through the beaches, grasslands, and streets. Took some photos on a swing under the tree, tree house, gazebo, and many more. One thing that I was sad to, there were so many garbages strewn along the streets and fields. We were going back home at noon. The schedule from Muara Angke - Tidung Island are around 9 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon, and from Tidung Island to Muara Angke are at noon and 7 in the evening.

If you want to use executive pax ship with air-conditioner, you can pay additional charge (but i dont suggest you to take this boat because the air-con usually broken) or you can take motor boat for up to 15 pax from Marina Ancol, the price is a way more expensive.
