South Kuta Bali : Hidden Beaches in a Day!

When you ask a foreigner (non-Indonesian) wherever you are outside the country, if they know Bali, they will surely answer YES. Who doesn't know Bali? In facts, Bali nowadays is so much different with Bali several years ago. More tourists come every year that you can find the traffic jam is no much different with Jakarta. However, even Bali is now a mass destination, with the never-ending inner beauty and hospitality, it still attract all the people with different ages and interests.

For me, who has visit Bali more than 10 times in last 5 years, there are so many places that we can explore more, and it won't be enough time to visit them all. More interesting beaches are revealed and known as hidden/secret/virgin beach, that will also become a mass tourist area in a few years ahead.

I'll share some hidden beaches that you can visit in only ONE DAY in South Kuta Area.. But I have to remind all the readers that you HAVE to keep below beaches out of waste and keep yourself safe.

Suluban Beach

Heading through the South of Kuta by car or motorbike, it's really easy to find Suluban Beach through Google maps or Waze. It takes around 1 hour drive or 25km from central of Kuta. Located near Uluwatu Sacred Temple, the secret beach is well-known for surfers. Prepare some small cash amount with local IDR currency since you'll find difficulties to find ATM in surround area. You need to pay parking fee for only IDR 5,000 per vehicles and take a walk for around 5 minutes before find out the divine beach cave.

The surfers need to swim or walk aside the cave wall.
The waves are totally great for surfing!

Nyang Nyang Beach

Only five minutes drive from Suluban, Nyang Nyang is a true beauty of virgin white sand beach and during some season, this site is famous for Paragliding site. You have to walk quite far from the top hills to reach the virgin beach (I couldn't make it trough the beach since we don't have much time). Some abandoned sailing boat could be found along the beach and some of them have been retouched with colorful paint and murals.

Nice for prewed photo ;)

Melasti Beach

Leaving Nyang Nyang, you can stop by for lunch in local or western restaurants on the way to Melasti Beach. This beach is popular for swimming, sunbathing and canoeing, and has similar view with Pandawa Beach. One of the different is, Pandawa has a cliff with hand-sculptured art. By the time I arrived in Melasti, the wind is quite strong and the wave was very high so it's quite dangerous to swim and it's not possible to do canoe. So we couldn't do much things there. Beach umbrellas and chairs are rented for IDR 100,000 (negotiable), sometimes with free fresh coconut.

Green Bowl Beach

Not far away from Melasti in Ungasan Area, Green Bowl has unique caves with bowl shape with a small temple inside the cave called Pura Batu Pageh. This hidden beach is suitable for surfing, swimming and snorkeling, but there is no lifeguard available here so always be cautious. To reach the cave you have to walk down the hundreds step of stairs but it will be paid off once you there. Some of the visitor did picnic inside the cave, you can do that too but please bring your own trash bag. The area is also the habitats of macaques, but they're not aggressive unless you give them food.

NB: the local sellers and masseurs here are quite unfriendly and keep pushing you to buy the souvenirs or have a massage. Do not ask the price or show interest if you're not going to buy. You can refuse them kindly.

There are more more hidden beaches in surrounding area but you can't visit all of them in a day, since you need more effort to reach most of them. It's recommended to wear comfortable hiking sandals, bring a hat & sunglasses, sunblock, drinking water and most important thing, trash bag! It is a really sad thing when I see a beautiful place become dirty.

Don't leave anything but footprints, don't take anything but photos!

*all photos above are RAW and non-edited.

Cheers,
Michelle
